Rain or Shine
Jiminy Cricket and Logan hope youíll be coming to Help A Horse Day at Horsemenís Outlet. It may look snowy now, but by April 22nd, the weather should be just perfect for a Mylestone event!
Mylestone is participating in our 4th annual ASPCA Help a Horse Day at Horsemenís Outlet in Lebanon NJ on Saturday, April 22nd. The event is outdoors, indoors if it rains. Thanks to your past participation and generous support, Mylestone qualified for and won a $10,000 grant in 2014 to help the horses! Please be a part of our Help A Horse Day again and help us win another grant - up to $25,000 - from the ASPCA. The challenge continues to be the creation of an event that highlights the plight of horses in desperate need in as many channels as possible.
We will have a large silent auction with a variety of baskets and individual items, Mylestone merchandise, a bake sale, tack swap, food, prizes, and more. Everyone that comes out and signs the roster will receive a special coupon; once you fill out the coupon you are entitled to 20% off one item at the register, plus you are entered to win a chance at a $100 or $250 gift card to Horsemenís Outlet.
Last year the funds raised at Help A Horse Day went towards our Equine Relief Fund and we were able to help 13 horses and ponies outside of our rescue horses on the farm.
This year we plan on devoting funds raised to rescuing additional horses as we have room, (we are working on a new intake pony as we go to press), but also to assist with the extraordinarily high expenses in treating the horses that Mylestone has already rescued - the devoted horses left in back fields to starve, horses from owners who fell on hard times, from the auction, and sometimes from the kill pen. Each of these horses deserved much more than starvation or a trip to slaughter, and Mylestone has given them a new chance at a far better life. Their gratitude touches us deeply, but does not help with the concomitant expenses involved in these kinds of rescues. Our veterinary bills are high; specialized medications for numerous of our older residents can be very expensive; and they need expert farrier care which sometimes includes special shoes.
In addition, and especially because so many of our horses were once starved, we are promoting Horses Helping Humans as their way of giving back. So this year, Help A Horse Day will also include a food drive for a food pantry very near the farm. When you stop by Help A Horse Day, please bring a can of soup or other non-perishable item to help those with food insecurity.
If you canít make the event, please make a donation and indicate it's for Help A Horse Day. You can also send a check by mail and just mark HaHD in the memo for your funds to be counted for this event. We truly need your support to try and win another grant.
